Rescues We Love

Barbara uses her artwork to support a variety of local animal causes, including horse and donkey rescues and wildlife centers. Here are some of our favorites. We encourage you to check out their ongoing education, rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming programs and donate today.

Equine Spirit Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to bringing horses and people together. A licensed horse rescue with the State of New Mexico, their goal is to improve the life of both horses and people with programs including horse rescue and rehabilitation as well as therapeutic riding with PATH, Intl. accredited instructors and equine-assisted learning and therapy.

Originally founded by a local veterinarian as a rehabilitation center for injured birds, the New Mexico Wildlife Center evolved to treat all wildlife species in New Mexico. Their conservation efforts also include connecting people and wildlife through education programs. A non-profit organization, the NMWC treats up to 900 injured animals of 120+ species annually.

Sprit Run Equine Rescue is a non-profit rescue that specializes in rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of neglected, abused, and unwanted horses as well as providing sanctuary to horses with special needs. Through individually tailored training programs, each horse is “heard” and healed. On a personal note, Barbara Meikle’s own horses Felina and Deacon were saved through SRER’s tireless efforts.
